So what is it like here for crime?

SERIOUS CRIME

Sex Offences including rape have increased

PETTY CRIME

Theft of milk from doorsteps is a practice of many late night revellers on their way home on the footsteps of the milkman. OUTLOOK- Deterioration in old English practices seriously questions the future for home milk delivery.

VANDALISM

Motor vehicle damage is on the increase. Property damage most often focuses on smashing glass, such as bus shleters and un-occupied buildings. CAUSE- Most often relates to drink and drugs. OUTLOOK- Expected to increase due to the inadequate prevention, detection and prosecution.

MOTORING CRIME

Harlow has invested in a variety of traffic calming schemes including installation of speed cameras. However Speeding is pandemic in Harlow. A recent trend that appears to have caught on with the young is that of ignoring RED lights when it suits. Drunk Driving is one again on the increase, Police figures for the Xmas period 2003 showed a sharp increase in positive test results. CAUSE- A general lack of regard for others and ignorance. OUTLOOK- Most calming schemes have not seriously lowered speeding crime, no improvement is expected.
